Pure is poor

Quick, download this song: “The Heart Gently Weeps” by the Wu-Tang Clan. As you may guess from the title, it samples “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Sort of. Wu-Tang initially claimed on its MySpace page that the song samples “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” but it turns out it merely features a replaying by Dhani Harrison and John Frusciante, with Erykah Badu singing the chorus with different lyrics. I don’t know whether they wanted a real sample but couldn’t get it or what, but anyway it’s a great song as it is.
So it’s still cool, but not groundbreaking like it would have been with a real sample. You see, there has never ever been a licit Beatles sample. There have been plenty of songs that incorporate Beatles samples, but they’re all illegal. Because god forbid some stupid rapper tarnish the holy aura of the Beatles by rapping over “Eleanor Rigby” or whatever. I mean, I assume that’s the problem: some idiot superstition about the purity of art.
Pure is poor.
