Kimono Dragons

I just read Y: The Last Man —- Kimono Dragons (Brian K. Vaughan, Pia Guerra, Goran Sudžuka, José Marzán Jr.). It seems to collect issues published earlier this year, so I guess I’m not too far behind. It’s the first comic book I’ve read in, I don’t know, a year? Maybe not that long. Whatever.

Am I imagining this, or is Y: The Last Man gradually gaining ninjas (which I find sort of dull) and losing science fiction ideas and character development (which I find more entertaining)? I’m probably giving too much credit to dimly remembered earlier volumes (and not giving enough credit to more recent volumes), but this is my impression after reading this last volume. Oh well. I think Vaughan doesn’t overuse his favorite word (cunt) quite as much this volume. There are a couple of good flashback issues, one for Dr. Mann and one for Alter. Alter suddenly appeared in this volume leading a team of Israeli soldiers in tanks across Kansas—-I didn’t remember what she’d been doing the last couple volumes, but I just looked back through the previous volume and I see she’s the one who shot Yorick’s mom! So there’s one less mystery I have to keep track of.
